Three Things to Do in Central Australia

Graham R. Taylor, principal of Marquis Advisory Group, enjoys travelling around his native Australia. Before establishing his current place of business, Graham R. Taylor worked as an attorney in San Francisco, but he still spent his spare time in the great outdoors. While the coastal cities of Australia are more well-known, the country’s central expanses offer many hidden gems waiting to be explored.

1. Uluru. One of the most recognizable landmarks in Australia, Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is often seen as the symbol of the country, and well worth a trek. While skydiving is possible over the massive formation, most travelers prefer a scenic walk, a hot air balloon trip, or even a trek on camelback.

2. The Kangaroo Sanctuary. Located in Alice Springs, in almost the direct center of the Australian landmass, the Kangaroo Sanctuary opened in 2005, and is now featured on a BBC television show, Kangaroo Dundee. Educational guided tours happen three days a week, a must for animal lovers.

3. The Devils Marbles. These gigantic boulders, made of granite and scattered over nearly 100 kilometers in the northern territory, are true wonders. While they were formed over millions of years by erosion, they seem to balance precariously on top of one another, and hold significant meaning to the local population.
4.Kakadu.Closer to Darwin in the north, this national park has the water, the birds, the crocodiles, the animals and the ancient indigenous cave art.
For those who love the outdoors and seeing the very best of what nature has to offer, central Australia offers a unique landscape, with plant and animal species specific to the area.
